New steampunk pendants available

I’m a little bit fed up with all those heart pendants, although they are extremely popular. I decided to make some new pendants that are round, oval, square, anything but heart. These are four new ones, but there are also some older ones still available in the shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/ukapala?section_id=7177309&page=2

Rectangle steampunk pendant

I’ve been reluctant to use rectangle-shaped beads for steampunk jewellery, but a friend told me: “Rectangle is not typical. Not typical is good.” so I tried. The main bead of this pendant is light olive-green glass, however it’s covered in a layer of copper powder on the inside, which makes it look like antique-gold coloured. Available on Etsy.

Busy

I’ve been really busy for the last few days, preparing jewellery, clasped ribbons and printed materials for my table at Octocon, so I haven’t been able to take a lot of photos. I’m also not listing anything new on Etsy, just in case I sell it at the convention. After browsing what I already have, I figured I have plenty of brown and red steampunk pendants but almost no other colours, so I’ll be making …

Steampunk pocket watch blue set

The base of this pendant is the main part of a vintage pocket watch movement. I added sapphire/cobalt blue beads (lampwork and fire polished glass) and a lot of gears. I’m quite fond of this colour combination. I kept the earrings simple, because the pendant is quite detailed and I did not want to split the focus. Available on Etsy.

Amber glass steampunk earrings

I’m so happy about how they came out! I’ve certainly made a huge amount of earrings for the past few weeks (didn’t have time to list all of them on etsy, though), but this is one of the best pairs so far :) SO not fair that I look awful in yellow :( Actually I might use this pattern for other pairs, since I’ve got plenty of round shaped beads (no purple, though, it’s been …

Steampunk and non-steampunk

I was running out of watch parts, this flat piece was one of the last that I had. I weaved about a half of this pendant, when suddenly the bead inside broke in two :( I had to undo half of what I had made to replace it with a new one. I was happy with the final result, and everybody seemed to like it. My friend asked me to make something similar, but non-steampunk. …

Blue blood

I only had one bead like this: large, sapphire coloured venetian glass, so I waited to use it until I had gold plated wire (just didn’t seem to go with anything else). And I had some brass gears I wanted to use. The pictures just don’t show the whole effect, I can’t manage to photograph it right. It took me several hours to finish it. That’s because gold plated wire is harder to work with, …

Heart in a golden cage

The first thing I did when I’ve got the beads yesterday was to photograph them. Then I picked one of them and made this. I don’t want the heart pendants I make to be “cute” (that’s why I avoid pink), but apparently they are considered so, and sell very quickly (I don’t manage to blog them soon enough, apparently). I like how the gold plated wire looks, but it’s very hard to work with it …
